The Old Castle Inn

The Old Castle Inn, located in Delaware Water Gap, was built by Dimmick Drake in 1906. Some say it was originally meant to be a boy's school, but it became one of the best tourist attractions in the 1920's. Many people came to the Old Castle Inn in the summer to escape the heat of New York City. Some of the celebrities that appeared at the Inn included Enrico Caruso, John Phillip Sousa, and Champion Boxer Gene Tunney. The Castle Inn was purchased by the late Fred Waring in 1952 as a home for his music company "Shawnee Press." Mr. Waring also used it as a place for his summer vocal music workshops. At one time there was a "Music Hall" but it was destroyed by fire in 1985. Shawnee Press left the Castle Inn in February 2004 and moved to Chester, New York. The Castle Inn is currently owned by Ms. Theresa Veltri, and her husband Frank Paccione. I wish Theresa and Frank the very best in their restoration endeavors.

Below are photographs taken of the Old Castle Inn by Alfred Kuchinski on May 30, 2009. Great progress has been made in its restoration. To enlagre any photograph please "click" on it.
